Ralph Barrat Quartet
June 23 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm$15
Frank Sinatra fans will have the world on a string when the Ralph Barrat Quartet returns
to Pat’s House of Jazz, at the Osborne Bay Pub. “The February show was cancelled
due to snow, but luckily there was an opening on June 23”, says publicist Gloria Collins.
“Barrat’s distinctive vocal style is reminiscent of the in-the-pocket swing of Frank
Sinatra, the smooth-as-melted-chocolate delivery of Mel Torme and the edgy
interpretations of Bobby Darin,” Collins says.
Looking mighty fine in their classy tuxedos, the quartet, featuring vocalist Barrat, pianist
Tom Vickery, bassist Joey Smith and drummer Ron Joiner, will deliver such Sinatra hits
as Come Fly with Me and One for My Baby along with a repertoire of standards
inspired by the great male vocalists of the past five decades. It all makes for a nostalgic
afternoon of music that captures all the romance of the golden era of jazz.
Based in Comox, Barrat performs in several bands on the Island and in Vancouver, both
as a vocalist and pianist, and has also been on the cruise circuit down south.
“Tom Vickery, a former director of the Royal Military Band, is a joy to watch when he
unleashes a torrent of chords,” says Collins.
“Vickery and veteran bassist Joey Smith, an alumnus of the Glenn Miller Orchestra,
enthusiastically toss musical ideas back and forth while tasty drummer Ron Joiner adds
