NMA Big Band
February 18 @ 2:00 pm$20.00
The 18-piece NMA Big Band, always a crowd pleaser, is returning to the stage at Pat’s House of Jazz in Crofton.
With charts ranging from classic swing standards to contemporary funk, fusion and New Orleans beat, this is one tight, versatile band.
Now in its 51st year, the band combines the full-throated, soulful jazz vocals of Sydney Needham with the impressive talents of Vancouver Island University professors, music students, alumni and local professionals.
The former winner of Victoria Has Talent, Needham sings songs from the repertoires of Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald and Julie London.
Director and renowned music educator Bryan Stovell, who currently teaches jazz theory and improvisation at Vancouver Island University, is the band’s driving force.
A recipient of the Marshall McLuhan Distinguished Teacher Award for both B.C. and Canada, Stovell has mentored some of Canada’s most talented musicians, including Diana Krall, trumpeter Ingrid Jenson and blues guitarist David Gogo.
Table reservations are recommended for this popular band. Call (250) 324-2245. Tables held until 30 minutes before showtime.
