An afternoon of sultry vocals, infectious grooves and original improvisations is on tap when Victoria’s Lust Life jazz band returns to Pat’s House of Jazz in Crofton’s Osborne Bay Pub.
Founded by trumpeter Bryn Badel 25 years ago as a classic jazz band, its repertoire has morphed to include blues, funk, pop and Latin music.
With saxophonist Wayne Kozak, drummer Chris Thackray, and with guitarist Al Vance and Badel doubling as vocalist, the band performs at many of Victoria’s top jazz venues — the Fairmont Empress, Butchart Gardens, Royal B.C. Museum, Hotel Grand Pacific, Chateau Victoria and Victoria’s JazzFest.
“Our repertoire stems from the love of the jazz song form [and] the great American songbook,” says Badel. The band is dedicated to “honouring the music and making each piece of music we play memorable.”
Lust Life’s stylings “defy classical description,” he says. “Their unique eclectic sound paints a mellifluous picture of West Coast style.”
