Iain Duncan Trio with Ryan Oliver
April 1 @ 2:00 pm$15.00
Boss Tenors: Iain Duncan Trio with guest Ryan Oliver.
Iain Duncan and Ryan Oliver’s duelling tenor saxes take on Dr. Tony Genge’s B3 Hammond organ in a blistering show at Pat’s House of Jazz.
Hard-driving drummer Jon Miller rounds out the quartet, which brings back the funky hard-grooving sound of ‘60s organ soul jazz and hard bop.
All are consummate jazz professionals. Duncan, who plays regularly with Genge at the O Bistro Jazz series in Victoria, has also appeared at Hermann’s, the Northern Quarter and the Victoria Jazz Festival. He studied music at Vancouver’s Capilano College, UBC, and the University of Victoria.
Oliver is a Juno-nominated saxophonist who has toured internationally with the Shuffle Demons among others and teaches clinics at Vancouver Island University, The University of Western Ontario, and the University of Windsor.
Genge, a professor of music at Saint Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia who is currently on sabbatical, took his doctorate at State University of New York. He has performed and recorded with leading Canadian and international jazz artists, including Joe Coughlin and Paul Horn.
Miller studied at McGill University. He performs with his own quartet and with saxophonist Monik Nordine. He has also shared the stage with Jeff Healey, Charlie Hunter, and Hugh Fraser.
The show is part of a regular Sunday afternoon jazz concert series at the pub, presented by the Chemainus Valley Cultural Arts Society.
Table reservations are recommended and can be made by calling the pub at (250) 324-2245.
