CVCAS wants to Build an Arts Center in Chemainus!

For over 15 years, CVCAS has been hosting numerous music and performance events in town. Everyone loves our summer Music and Festivals in the Park. Over the past several years, we have featured many indoor performances, renting local halls when we can get them. While we are grateful for these spaces, they do not provide the level of professionalism we need. We hope to attain a space with proper stage, sound, lighting and seating to give our audience the best possible experience.

At the same time, we have expanded into the realm of Visual Arts by establishing Rainforest Arts Gallery, that showcases the work of over 70 local artists. We are also adding literary events, 1st Nations art projects and festivities and establishing youth mentorship programs. While we are grateful to Coastal Community Credit Union for providing us with this subsidized space, in order to continue supporting our artists, we require a much larger facility. Therefore, we are looking for a new gallery space as well.

Finally, we have, so far, been unable to offer public art education opportunities, so we are also looking for a classroom space in the new Arts Center.

There is no question we are growing, and although we love our Water Wheel Park Band Shell, it simply cannot house all the wonderful plans we have for the future. We are looking to build an all encompassing Arts Center in Chemainus, as close to Water Wheel Park as possible.
